2021-2022 School Operational Plan for Graves County Schools

Last Updated: 11/17/2021 6:34 PM

We look forward to welcoming our teachers, students, and families back into our schools for the 2021-22 school year. We are committed to providing high quality education in a safe and secure manner.  The following information details our current School Opening Plan.  As in the past year, our procedures are subject to change in response to local/state guidance.

Updated on November 16, 2021

We will:

  • Allow mask wearing to be optional inside school buildings.  Require masks on school buses, as ordered by the Center for Disease Control and clarified by the Kentucky Department of Education on 7/19/21.
  • Continue to work with our local health department regarding contact tracing and potential quarantines.  Students and staff will be quarantined when exposed for more than 15 minutes while in a 3 foot radius of the positive individual.  Fully vaccinated persons will not have to quarantine if he/she is not experiencing symptoms.  Individuals quarantined will receive communication from GCSD explaining the quarantine procedures.
  • Develop a test to stay plan.  This will be aligned to the plan developed by the Kentucky Department of Public Health to minimize the impact of quarantining on non-symptomatic students and staff.  An on-site testing option will allow non-symptomatic students and staff with a school related COVID-19 exposure to remain at school by testing negative for COVID-19.   This testing will be given to students only after receiving parental consent.
  • Share information on vaccination opportunities for those interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Continue to ask employees and students to screen themselves for fever or other COVID-19 related symptoms.  We ask employees and students to stay home if they have a fever or other COVID-19 related symptoms or if they have come into contact with someone that has COVID-19.
  • Continue with cleaning and disinfecting of all facilities daily.  High touch surfaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.
  • Promote physical distancing where practical.  Students and staff will be socially distanced in all classrooms insofar as physical space permits.  Unless physical space does not permit it, at least 3 feet will be used to separate students and staff.
  • Continue to utilize hand sanitizer stations placed throughout our buildings.
  • Teach and promote proper hand washing and respiratory hygiene.
  • Post signage in all facilities to encourage proper hand and respiratory hygiene.
  • Utilize seating charts to minimize the number of potential quarantines.
  • Operate all schools on a standard schedule, on-site.
  • Provide remote instruction when necessary.  As of September 14, 2021, the Graves County Board of Education authorizes the superintendent to temporarily assign students at a school, grade, classroom, or student group level to remote instruction due to significant absences of students or staff related to COVID-19.

For those interested in COVID-19 vaccination opportunities, the Graves County Health Department offers vaccines Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Appointments can be scheduled by calling (270) 247-3553 or walk-ins are welcome.

As we continue to monitor this ongoing challenge, we will promptly inform you of any changes.  Thank you for your flexibility and continued support of Graves County Schools.
