GCMS choir members Maggie Murphey, Natalie Sutton among elite 140 students in KMEA All-State Jr. High Choir

Graves County Middle School choir students Maggie Murphey, left, and Natalie Sutton, right, flank GCMS choir director Laynie Alba Mitchell. The students participated in the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s All-State Junior High Choir recently. Mitchell said they are two of the 140 students selected from more than 1,000 eligible students statewide. Participating students submitted recordings and competed via blind judging. Muphey said, “We practiced each day, met new people, and performed at Whitney Hall in the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville.” Sutton added, “It was a really good learning experience and it was fun to be there with a lot of good singers.”
