Graves County High School senior Landon Dowdy took the oath of office as the nonvoting student member of the Graves County Board of Education for the current school year at the board’s September meeting. His fellow students elected him to represent them. Board attorney David Hargrove administered the oath, noting that it was written in another era and despite efforts to update it, the Kentucky General Assembly has chosen to retain its historic nature and wording. It includes assurance that the person taking the oath has not participated in a duel with deadly weapons, issued a challenge, nor acted as a second. Dowdy assured Hargrove he had not.
