Students must have first Hepatitis A Series shot by school start in August; all 16-year-olds need meningococcal booster
“This coming school year (2018-19) is the first time the state of Kentucky has made a blanket immunization change from grades K through 12,” said registered nurse Kara McMullen, the Graves County Schools elementary school nurse coordinator. “Every child must have their Hepatitis A Series in addition to all the other shots they had to have for years. We started at Christmas letting parents know, because the shots have to be given six months apart. Every student must have that first shot before the start of school in August.

“Also, all 16-year-olds must have a meningococcal booster.” McMullen concluded, “They get the first shot at their sixth grade physical and now when they turn 16, they must have a booster.”
