What is K-PREP?

K-PREP stands for Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress. This is the new public school assessment program that began in Kentucky during the 2011-2012 school year. The new assessment is given to students in grades 3-8 and includes multiple choice, short answer, and extended response questions.

Please keep in mind the following as you look at your child's results.

  • "Kentucky's adoption of the Common Core Standards in English/language arts and math, coupled with the new K-PREP assessments tied to those standards, will lead to proficiency rates among students that are lower than what we have previously seen. This set of scores CANNOT be compared to previous years' scores since we are assessing students on a different standard. The previous standard was basic proficiency on math and reading. The new standard is college and career readiness."

For more information you can download the Parents Guide to Accountability.

When is K-PREP testing done?

K-PREP testing will be completed during the last 14 instructional days of the 2015-2016 school year in grades 3-5.  Please keep this in mind as you make appointments for your child.  It is very important they are at school.
